Your medical marijuana may not be as safe as you would expect. According to a report this week in Bloomberg Businessweek the company Verda Bio is on a quest to build a database of marijuana strains. They seek to create stable plant varieties facilitating the standardization and labelling of medicinal marijuana, but their testing has revealed some pretty disturbing evidence. Among mold, pesticides and other common marijuana contaminates in the marijuana they tested, some included vaginal and fecal bacteria as well. Simply put, this means that some people handling the marijuana are not using proper sanitation when doing so. The findings also show that the expected amounts of THC and CBD cannabinoids, that determine whether the marijuana is a recreational or medicinal variety was also irregular. This discrepancy in the ratio could adversely affect someone, such as a child, for whom not having the psychoactive effects of THC being prevalent is very important. While other countries are producing valuable medications, such as the multiple sclerosis mouth spray Sativex, the united states federal government has all but bound the hands of legitimate research and development of marijuana leaving consumers to take their chances with the cleanliness of their medicine.
